NEW YORK, May 30, 2008 — For the first time ever, “South Park” will be broadcast on television in HD when “South Park’s Imaginationland” premieres on DIRECTV’s The 101 Network tonight at midnight. DIRECTV will be the exclusive home of the feature-length, director’s cut from May 30-May 31. The instant classic “Imaginationland” trilogy originally aired on COMEDY CENTRAL® last fall, setting ratings records for the all-comedy network.
In addition, DIRECTV will also offer the HD version of “South Park’s” season eight premiere, “Good Times With Weapons,” on The 101 Network. The HD version of “Good Times With Weapons” was originally made available to Microsoft Xbox LIVE® members in 2007.
The “Imaginationland” trilogy (see synopsis below) drew almost 10 million unique viewers to “South Park’s” Wednesday premiere time slot (10:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.) when it aired last fall. The trilogy averaged a colossal 7.5 rating among Men 18-24, scoring a 23 share across the three episodes among this highly coveted demographic — even beating out Game 1 of the World Series — the highest M18-24 ratings for “South Park” since the epic second season in 1998.
COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment® and Paramount Home Entertainment® previously released the standard definition version of “South Park’s Imaginationland” on March 11, 2008 as a feature-length, completely uncensored DVD movie with all-new material added, storyboards from the making of the trilogy and with audio commentary from the co-creators and executive producers, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Additional bonus material included fan favorite episodes “Woodland Critter Christmas” and “Manbearpig.”
Launched in 1997, “South Park,” now in its 12th season, remains the highest-rated series on COMEDY CENTRAL. “South Park” regularly airs on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. and repeats Wednesdays at 12:00 a.m., Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. and Sundays at 10:00 p.m., 11:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone are co-creators and executive producers of the Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning “South Park” with Anne Garefino as executive producer. “South Park’s” Web site is www.southparkstudios.com.
