NEW YORK, February 13, 2012 – COMEDY CENTRAL Records release of Louis C.K.’s “Hilarious” was honored with the Grammy Award last night as Best Comedy Album. The awards are given by The Recording Academy, established in 1958 to honor excellence in music and recordings. This is COMEDY CENTRAL Records’ fourth Grammy win.
Filmed and recorded at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, WI, C.K.’s performance in “Hilarious” proves he is every bit the title. His unique observations of everyday life go way beyond politically incorrect and his views of human behavior are more than hilarious in this concert event. The concert aired as a COMEDY CENTRAL special, and the CD and DVD (COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment) of Louis C.K.’s “Hilarious” are uncut and uncensored.
COMEDY CENTRAL Records has previously won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 2011 for Lewis Black’s “Stark Raving Black,” in 2010 for Stephen Colbert’s “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All” digital album, and in 2007 with Lewis Black’s “The Carnegie Hall Performance.”
Louis C.K.’s “Hilarious” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2010 as the first stand-up concert film presented at Sundance. Directed by C.K., the film received rave reviews including Variety declaring “Standup comedy cinema has a new star in ‘Louis C.K.: Hilarious.'”
With more than twenty years as a stand-up comedian, C.K. is one of the most honest and respected comedic voices of his generation, finding success in television and film as well as the live stage. He serves as star, executive producer, writer and director of FX Network’s hit series “Louie,” in which he recently received the following Emmy nominations: Lead Actor in a Comedy, Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, Writing for a Special & Picture Editing for a Special.
In March 2011, C.K. accepted the award for Best Standup Special at the first annual “The Comedy Awards.” In addition, he has starred in two HBO One Night Stand stand-up specials, a “COMEDY CENTRAL Presents” special and HBO’s “25th Anniversary Young Comedians” special. C.K.’s other film and television credits include starring in “The Invention of Lying” alongside Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner, and was seen in a recurring role on the NBC series, “Parks & Recreation.” In addition, he created and starred in HBO’s first traditional sitcom, “Lucky Louie,” about the struggles of first time parenthood.
Previously released recordings by COMEDY CENTRAL Records include: John Mulaney’s “New in Town,” Patton Oswalt’s “Finest Hour,” Lewis Black’s “The Prophet,” Louis C.K.’s “Hilarious,” Bo Burnham’s “WORDS, WORDS, WORDS,” “Mitch Hedberg’s “Do You Believe in Gosh,” Dane Cook’s platinum-selling “Harmful If Swallowed” and double-platinum “Retaliation,” and the Grammy Award-winning “Lewis Black: The Carnegie Hall Performance,” among others.
