NEW YORK, December 6, 2012 – COMEDY CENTRAL Records received two nominations for “Best Comedy Album” for the Recording Academy’s 55th GRAMMYs, to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 10. The nominations, which were announced last night, are for the COMEDY CENTRAL Records releases of Lewis Black’s “In God We Rust” and Jim Gaffigan’s “Mr. Universe.”

Black is as angry as ever in the “Lewis Black: In God We Rust” extended and uncensored album. Black is a comedian like no other, and he brings his signature style to this album, recorded at the historic State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN. Black has received two GRAMMYs in the “Best Comedy Album” category for “Stark Raving Black” (2011) and “Lewis Black’s The Carnegie Hall Performance” (2007), and this is Black’s fifth GRAMMY nomination in that category.

The “Mr. Universe” album is classic Gaffigan – from in-depth discussions of fast food and having four kids to lengthy insights about whales, his hilarious takes on the mundane never disappoint. His first three COMEDY CENTRAL albums, “Doing My Time,” “Beyond the Pale,” and “King Baby” combined have sold in excess of 500,000 copies and he is one of the top comics touring today, selling out multiple nights at huge theaters across the country.

Launched in 2002, COMEDY CENTRAL Records has become the nation’s premiere comedy label and the most successful record label start-up during this time. To date, COMEDY CENTRAL Records has received 12 GRAMMY nominations and four GRAMMY wins, including last year’s win for Louis C.K.’s “Hilarious,” Black’s two GRAMMYs and a win for Stephen Colbert’s “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All” (2010).

In addition to its awards, COMEDY CENTRAL Records has achieved several sales benchmarks for its releases with comedian Dane Cook, including Double Platinum (“Retaliation”), Platinum (“Harmful If Swallowed”) and Gold (“Rough Around The Edges”).
