1NEW YORK, October 28, 2016 – It’s a two-night event featuring the rising stars of stand-up and the best up-and-coming sketch comedy as Comedy Central and The New York Comedy Festival present the annual “Comics to Watch” showcase.
The seventh annual “Comics to Watch” stand-up showcase will take place on Wednesday, November 2 at 9:30 p.m. at Carolines on Broadway with the second annual “Comics to Watch” sketch showcase taking place at UCB Chelsea on Thursday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. Both “Comics to Watch” showcases are part of the 2016 New York Comedy Festival.
“Comics to Watch” is an annual showcase featuring a wide range of diversely talented young comedians selected by Comedy Central and NYCF organizers who work closely together to identify the best new stand-up comedians from multiple cities across the country. The showcase is an effort to help launch the careers of the next generation of comedians by putting them in front of industry executives and comedy fans. In 2015, the “Comics to Watch” annual showcase expanded to two nights to also feature a sketch showcase, highlighting the best new sketch performers, each of whom will receive a development deal to submit a one-off sketch script to Comedy Central for development consideration.
Comedy Central will feature comedians and content from the “Comics to Watch” Stand-Up showcase at Carolines on its Snapchat Discover channel and video clips from each stand-up performer will also be posted on ccstandup.com.
The November 2 “Comics to Watch” stand-up showcase will feature the following comedians: Sonia Denis, Lashonda Lester, Will Miles, Marlena Rodriguez, Yamaneika Saunders, Josh Sharp, Brad Silnutzer, Joseph Vecsey, Allen Strickland Williams, Jono Zalay.
On the following night (November 3), the “Comics to Watch” sketch showcase will feature the following performers: “Astronomy Club” (Shawtane Bowen, Jonathan Braylock, Ray Cordova, James III, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses, Keisha Zollar), “Captain Hippo” (Andrew Ford, Daniel Spenser, Michael Antonucci, Steven Levine), Carmen Christopher, Annie Donley, Ana Fabrega, “Big Grande” (Dan Lippert, Jon Mackey, Ryan Rosenburg, Drew Tarver), Michael Hartney, Matt Rogers and Daniel Van Kirk.
“Comics to Watch” is an important step in the development process at Comedy Central with several performers from past “CTW” showcases having gone on to make various more appearances on Comedy Central including “The Half Hour” which for many of the comedians, is their first solo stand-up special. Past Comics to Watch include: Emily Heller, “The Half Hour;” Ramon Rivas, “The Half Hour;” Naomi Ekperigin, “The Half Hour” and “Broad City” writer; Josh Johnson, “Kevin Hart Presents: Hart of the City,” and “”The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” writer; Matt Ingebretson and Adam Lustick, the upcoming Comedy Central scripted series “Hampton Deville;” Kurt Braunohler, upcoming Comedy Central one-hour special “Trust Me;” Mark Normand, upcoming one-hour special “Amy Schumer Presents Mark Normand: Don’t Be Yourself;” and Michael Che, “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update co-anchor and former “Daily Show” correspondent.
